Succeeding in your first 100 days as CoS

If you are reading this page, you are either a demanding CoS who wants to perform well in your new role, or a demanding boss who wants to help your Chief of Staff grow as much as possible from the moment they arrive.

In any case, you've come to the right place to understand how to make the first 100 days of this Chief of Staff/CEO partnership a success.

  1. Build a close relationship with the CEO

  • Monthly lunch at a minimum

  • Weekly rituals from day one

  • One day off together twice a year

  • Access to your calendar and vice versa

  • Checklist of rules for good behavior as a couple

2. Understand the company's business very quickly

  • Visit the premises, services, factories, subsidiaries, etc.

  • Take the time to understand the company culture by spending time with the teams.

  • Understand the challenges facing the company and each individual by considering different perspectives ( stakeholders, CEO, managers, teams, customers).

3. Build a strong, trusting relationship with the executive committee

  • Lunch with everyone

  • Proving your worth by making yourself useful on a particular topic within 100 days

  • Avoid extremes (pretentious Moscow eye yakafokon vs. Egyptian note-taking scribe) and explain your position clearly.

4. Excel in your role

  • Take breaks to review your schedule, tasks, efficiency, etc.

  • Ensure thatthe weight of one's role is respected (sparring partner, execution machine, and general facilitator).

  • Monitor your performance by ensuring that of your CEO

  • Anticipate upcoming projects and plan for skill development

  • Always have part of yourself alert to the outside world

And all these tips still work on day 101! ;)
